1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device, so it can recognise you on the next page or visit. Some cookies are strictly necessary for the site to function; others help us understand how people use the site or remember a preference you have set.
This site uses cookies in line with the European ePrivacy Directive as transposed by the Irish ePrivacy Regulations (S.I. 336 of 2011) and the General Data Protection Regulation.
2. What we use cookies for
We keep cookies to a strict minimum.
- Essential — to remember your consent choice on the cookie banner. Without this we'd have to ask on every page.
- Analytics (optional) — to count anonymous page views so we know which pages help people find an engineer. Disabled by default.
- Marketing (optional) — to measure whether a paid ad on Google or Bing actually sent you here. Disabled by default. We are not running any marketing cookies at the time of writing; if we ever do, you will see them listed below before they fire.
3. Cookies in detail
This site uses the following cookies:
| Name | Purpose | Type | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| kep_cookie_consent_v1 | Stores your cookie consent choice (Accept all / Reject non-essential / per-category) | Essential (localStorage) | 12 months |
| _ga / _ga_* | Google Analytics 4 anonymous page-view counter (only fires after you accept analytics) | Analytics — third party | 14 months |
Strictly necessary cookies do not require your consent under the ePrivacy Regulations. The optional ones above do, and we do not set them unless you accept them on the banner.
4. Managing your consent
When you first visit the site you see a banner at the bottom of the page. You can:
- Accept all — turn analytics and any future marketing cookies on.
- Reject non-essential — keep only the consent cookie itself.
- Customize — toggle each category separately.
To change your mind later, clear the kep_cookie_consent_v1 entry from this site's local storage in your browser (Developer Tools → Application → Local Storage) and refresh the page. The banner will reappear.
5. Browser controls
Independently of our banner you can manage cookies in your browser:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Blocking essential cookies entirely may break parts of the site, including the consent banner itself.
6. Changes to this policy
If we add a new category or service that sets cookies, we will update this page and re-prompt for consent on your next visit. The current version is always here, with the "last updated" date above.
